The Shape Song book contains seven songs designed to teach children about shapes, using music, pictures and dance.
Each shape is brought to life as a character with illustrations by Juliette Doyle. The book comes with black and white outlines of each shape character to colour in. The tempo of the music reflects the number of sides of the shape, for example Mr Triangle does the waltz in 3 beats and Mr Square does the hoe-down counting 4 beats in a bar!
The Shape songs have been designed to support early years goals. Recognising and naming shapes supports mathematical understanding, and the dance suggestions encourage movements which can later be refined in the development of handwriting skills. A novel approach to learning about shapes that introduces dance and characters at the same time. Children from reception to Year 3 love it! |
